PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE DITTMAR
I always give a subject a Polaroid. It's a tactile and one-of-a-kind analog representation of the work we just made. It's the opposite of what's hot right now: AI. It's real. I bring that ethos to my portraiture by humanizing our most renowned cultural figures and transforming less famous folks into the rock stars they can be. You have seen my work in the New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, People, Vanity Fair, and Rolling Stone. I have worked with brands like Apple, Hulu, Levi's, Gap, HBO, Chobani, American Airlines and PNC Bank. I love to use film because analog is the future. I shoot it on my used Hasselblad that I bought at seventeen with a push from my professor (he just called me "Dittmar.") Using that camera, I've published two portrait books with the stories behind them. When you see a picture of mine, I hope you feel like you're standing in front of the person, just like I was.
